When we were getting ready to have the floor tiling put in, we were required to move the television from one side of the room to the other. This was an almost impossible task. The 36-inch CRT is extremely heavy; it was almost dropped when put up there by me and Chris M; Chris M is significantly stronger than Carolyn, and my lifting power is significantly less since my back injury. We also didn’t want to have to unhook and rehook everything, because that ends up taking forever to complete, as things are generally only rehooked in on an as needed basis.

The only way we could succeed was to brace ourselves on the wall and push the entire entertainment center at the base, one leg at a time.

What did we do when we ran out of wall? We created a new surface to brace ourselves on using the spare speakers that we had gathered over the years (some of which were in the house when we moved in). These things are USEFUL. They had to be adjusted to the left and to the righteach push, which was a bit annoying.

NASA EFFECT: Also, we didn’t go in a straight line across the room. We actually pushed towards the white pole in the middle of the room, so that when we got past it, we could brace ourselves on the poll instead. This is very much like the way NASA’s Voyager and other probes slingshot around planets to increase their speed.

In the end, we successfully moved it across the room without expending nearly as much effort as other people would have. We win!

What do you do when the speakers can’t reach you anymore? You line them up on their side instead. I think using this method we could have moved the TV pretty much anywhere in the room.

Action movie-stars in the making – Federation Square Connex BBQ
Kid Movie

We were too busy enjoying the Restaurant Express lunch at Bistro Vue to bother with the BBQ, but we did manage to catch some sun, and photos, just before the astro turf was rolled up and packed up. It’s nice having a camera with a 6x optical zoom, even if it is borrowed.

I was a bit surprised to see people around the square with laptops, so Julia whipped her Dopod D810 out, and sure enough, free wireless, and quite snappy too. We gave it a bit of a run on www.bom.gov.au/ and theage.com.au/, not willing to trust it with our webmail :)
